The initial concept sketches for our project were freeform explorations of movement and organic shapes, with an emphasis on seamless transitions. As these ideas were refined, they evolved into a cohesive conceptual model characterised by enhanced curves, added layers, and organic forms that seamlessly integrate into the hotel's overall aesthetic.

During our site analysis, we discovered the significant heritage of the Fig Tree Baths, also known as the Old Domain Baths, located in Woolloomooloo. This site was originally utilised by the indigenous people as a bathing place. We made a collaborative effort to honour this heritage by incorporating it into our design concept, aptly named "Drift" – drifting through time. This theme is reflected in the organic forms, the curvature of walls, and other elements like light materials. We explored movement through various features such as flowing fabric, water elements like the Reception Waterfall, Rain Room, and the Roof Pool. Additionally, we integrated the historical bath elements into our design, tying them in with our ice baths.

Our colour palette was carefully curated, following a tinted and shaded split complementary colour scheme inspired by figs. This scheme included warm beige, dusty pink, rich burgundy, deep brown, and muted purple. These colours are paired with more neutral, natural, and organic tones, such as beiges and browns, which are drawn from the timbers and heritage bricks, reinforcing the connection to the natural environment.

In designing a wellness-focused hotel, we ensured the incorporation of multiple sessions and activities that promote health and movement. These include yoga, Pilates, sessions with spiritual gurus, massages, a luxurious gym, sauna, and ice baths. In line with our theme of fluidity and relaxation, we also created a Wellness product line. All products are designed to be used with essential oils that offer proven health benefits, further aligning with our hotel's philosophy of health and serenity.
